Homelessness
The number of homeless persons served by Linn County Emergency Shelters and Transitional Housing Programs increased over 17% within the past five years (2004-2008).
LINN COUNTY HOMELESS DATA

- In the 2008-2009 academic year, over 1,300 students were served through homeless liaison programs. This represents a 94% increase from the 2007-2008 academic year.
- 54% of the students served by homeless liaison programs were “doubled up”, meaning living with another friend, family, relative, etc.
- Over 2,500 families are on a waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
- 270 individuals/families are on waiting lists for transitional housing programs.
- 83% of homeless families served in Linn County in fiscal year 2008 were female headed.
