Born Learning is a unique and innovative public engagement campaign that helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality learning opportunities for young children. It is designed to bring about both individual and community change.
United Way of East Central Iowa, as part of its community impact strategy, will be supporting and promoting the Born Learning program and its goals:
- Increase knowledge and behaviors of parents and caregivers that promote early learning and school readiness.
- Raise community awareness of the importance of quality early learning in order to mobilize public and decision-maker support, increase investments in early learning, and support policies that promote positive outcomes for children and their families.
In 2008, United Way of East Central Iowa Young Leaders Society is helping launch a Born Learning campaign in the community. More details are to follow with the development of this campaign.
Importance of Early Learning Experiences
Research shows that parents...
- Undervalue their contribution to early learning
- Don't always know what they should do to support early learning
- Don't feel they have the time to do what it takes
Born Learning seeks to clear those hurdles by communicating that everyday moments can easily be turned into quality early learning moments...and that's important because all children are born learning.
More information will soon be forthcoming on the Born Learning efforts taking place locally. Those interested in finding out more about the program can visit the Born Learning website. You can also click on this link to sign up to receive the Born Learning newsletter, "Bits of Understanding" .
Thank you for your interest in the future of children in eastern Iowa!
