Public Policy
Public Policy efforts are a catalyst for change…they obtain and direct funding for important community health and human service needs that compliment the ongoing fundraising and investment efforts of United Way of East Central Iowa. A committee of United Way of East Central Iowa volunteers and staff develop a public policy/legislative agenda to provide guidance on a variety of local, state and federal policy issues that sustain the work for our three key impact areas. United Way recently led a statewide effort to secure $210,000 in funding for United Way 2-1-1, an information hotline for health and human services.
We will provide information to legislators and to the public in an effort to increase understanding and awareness of the impact of policy and budget decisions on health and human services in our communities.
