2-1-1 Connects Callers To Critical Services
United Way’s free and confidential 24-hour hotline number, 2-1-1, makes it simple to find information about vital community services. People in need of assistance can call 2-1-1 to get connected to resources for basic human needs, physical and mental health, employment support, help for older adults and persons with disabilities, support for children and families and much more.
Since launching in early 2004, the local call center has received over 161,722 calls. The majority of the calls request information about utility and housing assistance, information and referral, childcare, and food.
United Way 2-1-1 partners with Linn County, Benton County, Black Hawk County and Cedar County Emergency Management. This partnership allows 2-1-1 to be a resource to the community in the event of a disaster. Individuals can call 2-1-1 or 1-866-469-2211 to receive accurate and timely information during a disaster, such as an ice storm, flood or an emergency at the Duane Arnold Energy Center.
In Linn County, residence have the opportunity to be included on a database that keeps public officials aware of individuals in the community who may need assistance during a dangerous situation. These individuals may register by calling United Way 2-1-1, where they will be asked a series of questions regarding their needs. This information is then sent to the Linn County Emergency Management Agency and maintained in their database system.
