Corridor Volunteers’ First Anniversary
Corridor Volunteers, a joint collaboration between United Way of East Central Iowa and United Way of Johnson County, connects individuals with volunteer opportunities throughout the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor. November 30 marked the first anniversary of this service, which has grown tremendously over the past year. Corridor Volunteers began with 63 volunteers and today accounts for 2,952 registered individuals and over 12,983 logged volunteer hours.
Corridor Volunteers works with 214 agencies, matching them with local volunteers. There is a wide range of volunteer opportunities including the adopt-a-family program, providing assistance at a local food pantry, or working outdoors to improve an agencies’ landscape. “I feel really good about the work I have done in the community,” said one volunteer. “I enjoyed volunteering because my time and not my money is something I can give back to the community right now.”
