Lois Buntz Receives NAACP President's Award

The Cedar Rapids branch of the NAACP hosted its 65th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet on October 21, 2007. This year’s theme was “Power Beyond Measure.” Keynote speaker was Kenneth E. White, Executive Director of the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission.

Individuals, organizations and businesses were nominated for an award which recognizes them for their contributions in improving the quality of life in our area. Lois Buntz, President and CEO of United Way of East Central Iowa, was the individual recipient of this year’s President’s Award. The awards were presented by local chapter President Dedric Doolin and event Chairperson Rita Robinson.

Buntz was recognized individually and on behalf of the United Way of East Central Iowa for creating an internal effort to develop cultural competency throughout the community. This internal involvement includes things such as providing speakers with diverse backgrounds and working with organizations that have diverse populations.
