United Way Campaign

Over 700 people packed Greene Square Park for United Way of East Central Iowa’s (UWECI) 2008 Campaign Kick-off on September 24. With the assistance of children from Waypoint’s Uptown Kids Child Development Center, Campaign Chair John Bickel announced this year’s campaign goal of $10,400,000. This year's $10.4 million goal is based on our communities' most critical needs and will help create positive, lasting change.

The results of this year’s Pacesetter campaigns were also announced. Pacesetter companies hold their campaigns early to jump start fundraising. AEGON USA, traditionally one of United Way’s largest supporters and a Pacesetter this year, reported that they will be making a $1.7 million contribution to this year’s campaign. Half of this money comes from employee giving, with the remainder as a corporate match. This is an 11% increase from AEGON’s contribution last year.

The other Pacesetters for this year’s campaign were the tenants of the US Bank Building, which include: the Hall Perrine Foundation, Shuttleworth and Ingersoll, Simmons Perrine, US Bank and other tenants. Led by a $1 million dollar contribution by the Hall Perrine Foundation, in support of the campaign and the UWECI Flood Recovery Fund, this group announced they would be donating $1,161,087 this year.

Bickel also announced that a $100,000 Challenge Grant has been issued by Paulson Electric for this year’s campaign. Any new or increased dollars, contributed to the campaign (not counting Pacesetter companies) will be matched dollar for dollar by Paulson Electric as a way to encourage other individuals and companies to step up their giving in this critical year for our communities.
