United Way Campaign Tops $10 Million
United Way of East Central Iowa’s recently completed campaign set a new record, surpassing the $10 million mark for the first time. The 2007 campaign collected a record $10,038,700, a 6.5% increase over last year’s previous record, officials announced Thursday. This marks the 15th consecutive year with an increase in contributions.
“The success of this year’s campaign demonstrates again how fortunate we are to live in such a caring and generous community,” said campaign chairperson Lydia Brown, president of LLB Executive Partners.
United Way of East Central Iowa President and CEO Lois Buntz attributes the organization’s success to a year-round commitment, working with businesses and individual donors and developing relationships. “I greatly appreciate the outstanding work done by Lydia, our campaign leadership team and everyone who volunteers their time to make United Way’s work possible,” said Buntz. “Whether you serve on our board, or run a campaign at your company, or make a contribution, you are improving people’s lives and we thank you sincerely.”
The money raised this year will be allocated to address the underlying causes of our area’s most urgent needs, identified in a Community Needs Assessment. They include: Making sure children and youth are nurtured and provided with the help they need to reach their full potential; giving families and individuals access to services and resources that support self-sufficiency, independence and healthy living; and making sure people in crisis have access to the services and information necessary to rebuild their lives and again be self-sufficient.
John Bickel, partner in the law firm of Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, will be the chairperson of the 2008 campaign. Bickel noted, “United Way is about helping our fellow citizens. We will have some ambitious goals for the upcoming year and with everyone’s help, will be able to continue to provide service to those most in need.”
