United Way of East Central Iowa Announces Funding
United Way of East Central Iowa’s Board of Directors recently approved allocations of over $8,142,216 for its Community Impact Partner Fund and Flood Recovery Fund.
The Community Impact Partner Fund will distribute $7,487,216 raised during the 2008 annual campaign to help those most in need and advance the common good within its six-county service area. Funds will be distributed for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009, to United Way’s 40 partner agencies.
Allocations are broken out in the following areas of need: Programs supporting early childhood and youth development will receive $2,339,000; programs supporting rebuilding lives-basic needs and self-sufficiency will receive $1,820,000; programs which support health care services and older adult independence will receive $2,131,000. An additional $1,197,216 will be distributed to specific nonprofit agencies through United Way’s Donor Designation program.
“This funding continues our efforts to support education, income and health as the three building blocks families and our communities need to grow and succeed,” says Lois Buntz, President & CEO of United Way of East Central Iowa. “Our partner agencies serve thousands of people and support improvements in the health and welfare of the community. These are issues the community has identified as most critical.”
Funding review teams, consisting of over 40 dedicated community volunteers, evaluate the work partner agencies are doing toward achieving previously identified goals, conducting interviews and agency visits before making recommendations which are submitted to the United Way Board of Directors for approval. This is year two of a three year funding cycle.
“We focus your contributions on the underlying causes of problems and work to achieve measurable results. Our community will be stronger if we can reach those individuals and families that are the most vulnerable and unite the caring power of our community partners to improve people’s lives”, said Dave Markward, chairperson of the United Way Board of Directors.
Donations to United Way of East Central Iowa stay in local communities to help people living in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jones, Linn and Washington Counties.
Flood Recovery Funds totaling $655,470 have been distributed to 16 nonprofit agencies that have either lost program revenue, have seen an increased demand for services, or are helping individuals and families impacted by the flood.
United Way of East Central Iowa’s Flood Recovery Fund has raised over $1.3 million which has been used to support flood-affected nonprofit agencies, children in need as a result of the flood and financial/credit counseling programs
