A family of eight in Urbana was totally displaced by a fire that occurred in their home. The American Red Cross responded by putting the family in a hotel and providing food, clothing, blankets and toys for the children. Once the family had found a new place to live, the Red Cross paid for the family's first month's rent and deposit. In addition, it gave the family money to purchase bedding and linens for their home.
During a recent visit with the family, the mother began to cry because she was so overwhelmed by the help the Red Cross had given to them. The family is well on their way to recovery and, with the help of the American Red Cross, they were able to move from disaster to recovery very quickly.
