Mark, who relied on his own car to get to his job in Marion, found himself stranded when his car broke down. His car needed over $2,000 in repairs, which he could not afford at the time. Mark could take the public bus to his job at the beginning of his shift, but there was no public transportation to return home after 12:30 am when his shift was over. Without the financial means to repair his vehicle, Mark didn’t know how he’d keep his job.
Mark remembered a co-worker who took a neighborhood shuttle to work at night. He contacted her and was referred to NTS. Following a call to NTS, Mark was quickly connected with a ride.
“I found I could get a ride home at night for only $4. Very reasonable when one taxi fare home is $12.50 or $12.75. I can also get a ride to work on Sundays when the city bus doesn’t run. Best of all, I was able to keep my job,” said Mark.
