Tom and his wife weren’t comfortable with his mom, 93, and his aunt, 94, living on their own in Pennsylvania. Tom’s dad died in 1994 and his mother had heart problems. Three years ago, Tom and his wife brought the two to live with them in Cedar Rapids.
Tom discovered the Witwer Center during a United Way tour of partner agencies. He sought its help to keep his mom and aunt physically, socially and mentally active. Tom’s mom and aunt love Witwer, where they socialize, make friends, enjoy good food and participate in programs.
It would be difficult for Tom and his wife to work if help wasn’t available. It would also be hard for him to provide the active lifestyle the two enjoy if it wasn’t for Witwer and other senior services.
Tom is grateful that his mom and aunt can live full lives and stay active. In his desire to give back, he now is a board member of Witwer.
