YLS Spotlight: Beth Lehman
March 22, 2017 | United Way Team

Meet Young Leaders Society (YLS) member, Beth Lehman of Rockwell Collins.

Beth, husband Jay, and daughter Avery.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do for fun?
My husband, Jay, and I have a two-year-old daughter, Avery. In my free time, I like to play and coach volleyball, ride my bike, and spend time with family and friends.

What’s something unique that people don’t know about you?
I have a major fear of collar bones/clavicles. Ironically, I just had to have shoulder surgery and they had to shave out a portion of my clavicle.

What causes are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about early childhood education and well-being. Since my husband is an educator, we see firsthand how lack of education and a strong family life affects a child every day.

Why did you decide to become involved with United Way and YLS?
I originally became involved with United Way when I was the company coordinator at The Gazette Company. I learned so much about United Way’s mission and how my donation could help so many organizations throughout the community. My role as company coordinator helped me learn about YLS. A fellow committee member suggested I could be a fit for the committee.

Do you have any advice for others who want to be more active in the community?
If you want to be are looking for a way to be active in the community, I think it’s important to find out what excites you and what you are passionate about. Once you know what that is, take the step of reaching out to someone. Almost no one is going to turn down someone looking to help.
