Why should I try to schedule myself before I call?

We are a volunteer-based program. All our tax preparers and greeters are volunteers. We have limited staff support and do not have the ability to manage a large influx of calls. It’s best to try to schedule yourself if you are able so we can help those over the phone who do not have access to the internet.

Will there be measures to ensure my health/safety?

Absolutely. We intend on ensuring that all volunteers and clients can attend their appointments with peace of mind. Including hand sanitation stations, glass dividers, and frequent sanitation of surfaces as well as a limited number of individuals allowed in a single room at a time.
Please do not come to your appointment if you are not feeling well. You can schedule another time to come in to get your taxes done by clicking the book appointment link at the top of the page. If appointments are full, but you need to reschedule due to illness please call 319-382-5685 and we will work with you to find another time.

We believe in transparency.

That is why we will be providing you with real-time data of how many community members have been helped. Numbers will be updated every week so that everyone can see the impact that VITA has. Feel inspired? You can volunteer with VITA here.
