Making a difference in Jones County
The Jones County Volunteer Center’s (JCVC) mission is to engage people of all ages in volunteer services to meet critical community needs that impact and benefit citizens of Jones County while providing a high-quality experience that will enrich the life of the volunteer. JCVC provides meaningful experiences for all volunteers.
Volunteers help with the following direct service programs in Jones County:
Elderly Outreach Assisted Transportation Program
Volunteers provide extra assistance to senior clients by transporting them to nonemergency medical appointments outside of Jones County.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program
Trained and certified volunteers provide free tax preparation for individuals and families with annual income less than $53,000.
Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)
Volunteers provide free counseling on Medicare and Medicaid, saving Jones County seniors time and money.
Jones County Food Bank Assistance
Volunteers assist families visiting Jones County food pantries.
Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC)
Volunteers come together during natural disasters and emergencies in the area to help filter spontaneous volunteers to sites while providing safety training and tracking volunteer hours for Emergency Management of Jones County
The difference made in 2016:
- Elderly Outreach Assisted Transportation Program provided rides traveling more than 52,011 miles benefiting 187 Jones County residents.
- SHIIP provided Medicare counseling to 102 clients saving them more than $57,454 collectively.
- VITA helped 169 Jones County residents receive maximum returns. The program was able to net $299,825 in return money for Jones County residents.
