Welcome to United Way of East Central Iowa, Brianna!

Brianna Hull joined United Way’s Marketing and Communications team last week as our new Content Specialist. Get to know a little about Brianna by reading her responses below.

Tell us about where you are from, where you grew up, etc.

I’m from SE Iowa right along the Mississippi river. Growing up, I spent a lot of time on the river, on the softball field, or in the dance studio.

What are your hobbies? What do you do for fun?

My favorite thing to do in my free time is cook. I really enjoy trying new recipes and experimenting in the kitchen. I also like traveling and (almost) any event that includes live music.

Why did you want to work for United Way?

I have a passion for helping others, but I could never quite put my thumb on what that looked like for my career. United Way is impacting the lives of individuals and families, and making a lasting difference in our communities, and that’s something I knew I had to be a part of.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?

That’s a tough question, because I’m always watching a couple shows at once. I just finished Grace & Frankie and the first season of The Sinner, but I am also bingeing Shameless (I know I know… I’m behind). Otherwise, I’m always jumping in-and-out of the entire Shonda Rhimes suite of shows and haven’t met a docuseries I don’t like.

Who inspires you and why?

I would say my mom and my grandma. My mom was a single parent for most of my childhood and sacrificed more than I’ll ever be able to wrap my head around. She made me independent and driven while my grandma really instilled her selflessness and acceptance of others into me—she’s the most kind, curious, and genuine person I know. I am lucky to call these women my family and some of my best friends.

Where is your favorite place in the world?

That’s such a hard question, because I feel like there are so many places I still need to see that might be my favorite! The simple answer that comes to mind is home, wherever that may be at the time. I am an introverted extrovert, so although I love a good social event, my favorite place to be is at home either trying a new recipe or watching a good movie.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.

So glad you asked! I have two cats (who act more like dogs) named Eleanor and Fitz, but I definitely treat them more like children—we have been through a lot together! At the end of the day, though, I’m an overall animal fanatic. It’s one of my dreams to run an animal sanctuary.
